Istrian Pasta

The oldest known recipe for pasta was written in China, 2000 BCE.

According to this recipe, pasta was made from wheat flour, eggs and water, and it was served with poultry. This fact is not very well known today, even though pasta is one of the most important symbols of Mediterranean cuisine - and thus of Istrian cuisine as well.

Peasant life in old Istria was most greatly marked by cuisine and dishes that have been prepared on the peninsula since ancient times. Of these original dishes, an important place has always been held by traditional Istrian pasta, which changed its form and name on the way from Italy to Istria.

Made with white flour, a pinch of salt, a bit of water, and sometimes a home-raised egg, Istrian pasta was made then as it is today - with great skill and lots of love.

Istrian Autochthonous Wines

Istrian wine is a poetry of taste and fragrance.

It is an inseparable part of the Istrian man, his passion and love, his deepest intimacy and most open pride, a lavish gift from the rocky land and abundant sunshine.

The history of wine and of the local people is an inseparable story which has lasted over 2000 years, since the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius brought vines to the warm Istrian soil.

From the golden Malvasia (IQ) to the ruby Teran, from young light wines coloured by the autumn to the full and elegant flavours of ripe barriques, Istrian wines offer a multi-layered story that has just started to be discovered.

Istrian Truffle

The Black Diamond of Istria.

In the hinterlands of Istria, among the dark, dense forests surrounding the medieval towns of Motovun and Buzet, deep in the clay, an underground truffle mecca can be found.

These are some of the richest grounds for uncovering the black diamond of Istria, better known as the truffle.

There is yet another interesting fact about Istria. This is where a local caterer and truffle hunter, and his dog, dug up one of the largest truffles ever found weighing 1.31 kg, on 2 November 1999 not far from Buje.

The Guinness World Records listed this truffle as the largest in the world.

We eat here every time we're in Croatia.

The food is fresh and delicious, the service is fast and friendly, and the restaurant is located right by the sea/harbor.

The owners are kind-hearted people who take the time to serve their guests.

I highly recommend this restaurant; you won't regret it!

The restaurant has enough tables and a large terrace.

The service was nice and fast.

We had calamari for which we waited about 10 minutes.

The food was tasty, but the portions were smaller, especially the ligne on the grill, and the side dish was small!

More expensive, but overall we rate it positively and recommend it!
